The Beta Rho Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota was installed on April 17, 1953 at what was then Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College and State University). This Chapter has the distinction of being the one-hundredth chapter installed since the foundation of Sigma Alpha Iota. Edna Riat Hutton, National Editor was the installing officer, assisted by Mrs. Donald May, Province President. Miss Maggie Jenkins, former associate professor of GSCW, was key in establishing the Beta Rho Chapter. For her work and interest, the National Executive Board awarded Miss Jenkins the Sword of Honor. Shortly after Beta Rho's installation, the Iota Province was reorganized as the Lambda Province. Reorganization occurred again in 1963, changing the Lambda Province to the current Tau C.
